JEE (Joint Entrance Examination)- Mains
About JEE (Joint Entrance Examination)- Mains
JEE Main is a national-level entrance exam by NTA, conducted for admissions to undergraduate engineering (B.E./B.Tech), architecture (B.Arch), and planning (B.Plan) programs in India's top colleges like NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs, also serving as the gateway to JEE Advanced for IITs. It's a computer-based test with two papers: Paper 1 (Physics, Chemistry, Math for B.Tech) and Paper 2 (Math, Aptitude, Drawing for B.Arch/B.Plan), offering multiple attempts annually to improve scores.
Eligibility Criteria
Appeared or Passed 10+2 (HSC Maharashtra Board) with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM).
Exam Pattern
JEE Main (Paper 1 for B.Tech) is a fully Computer Based Test (CBT) lasting three hours. The exam covers Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, with 30 questions allocated per subject, totaling 90 questions. However, students must attempt 75 questions (20 Multiple Choice Questions and 10 Numerical Value Type Questions, with 5 mandatory numerical questions). Scoring is 4 marks for a correct answer and -1 mark for an incorrect answer (negative marking). The numerical value type questions test deep computational ability. Coaching institutes rigorously train students in mock CBT environments to simulate the exact NTA pattern, emphasizing speed, managing negative marking risk, and strategic question selection.
Syllabus
The JEE Main syllabus is based on the NCERT curriculum for Classes 11 and 12, covering Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, with topics like Sets, Calculus, Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Organic/Inorganic/Physical Chemistry, and more
How to Apply
Enrollment for coaching typically begins immediately after the Class 10th results (May/June) or 11th exams.
